St. Cecilia celebrates "Our Lady of Guadalupe Day"

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

After the floats and bands of the Kennett Christmas Parade had passed on Friday, another smaller, but very important, procession was taking place on College Street. It was not flashy, with lots of lights, but was more solemn, with lots of flowers on a trailer, pulled by a single pickup truck, with many participants walking, and some dancing, behind it. The Dec. 12 procession honored "Our Lady of Guadalupe Day," the most celebrated religious holiday in Mexico. It is a popular Catholic feast that celebrates the belief that a man encountered the Virgin Mary, Mexico's patron saint, in Mexico City, on both December 9 and 12, in the year 1531.
