Water problems plague Wardell

Since 2013, the City of Wardell has dealt with water problems. The first was a water outage caused when a pump suddenly quit working a week before Thanksgiving. By December 6, Wardell received an emergency grant through the Missouri Department of Economic Development. They were issued $35,400 for the purchase of a new submersible pump in order to restore water service to the town. Interestingly, only one minor problem cropped up regarding the pump's installation. Due to the fact that the water that is pumped from the well is naturally around 90 degrees, they had to make sure the new submersible pump would hold up to such temperatures. Most water from artesian wells run around 70 degrees. Once that issue was resolved, the pump was installed. Although this did restore water to the nearly 435 residents, it was not the end of the water issues.
